KSG Distributing traces its roots to 1973 when company founder, Kevin S. Garn began filling the back of his station wagon with 8-Track tapes and drove up and down the western base of the Rocky Mountains selling entertainment to Truck Stops and Gas Stations along the way. By all accounts this was not an ordinary way for a young High School student to spend his weekends but Garn quickly found that the desire for entertainment was strong and sales began increasing quickly.

Greg Sanders was KSG Distributing's first full-time employee, hired in 1980 just after the introduction of cassette tapes. The original business plan was simple, from the small warehouse in Northern Utah Sanders would head north towards Idaho, and Garn headed south towards Nevada. Along the way they'd find new accounts and replenish shelves in existing accounts. At the end of the week they'd come back, refill their vans and start all over.

From then on the growth was staggering, and every two years into the mid-nineties KSG Distributing had to build a new warehouse or add onto existing ones to manage the growth. In 1985 a major shift took place in that the first major studio, Warner Brothers, opened KSG Distributing as a direct account and within four years every major music studio sold direct to KSG. With many of the manufacturers offering videos in addition to music VHS naturally became an extension of KSG's entertainment offerings.

In the early 90's clubs (like Price Savers, since acquired by Sam's Club) represented nearly 70% of KSG's revenue, but with shrinking margins and many studios starting to sell to the clubs directly KSG Distributing made a conscious decision to re-focus their business efforts on the burgeoning Truck & Travel business. Within just a couple years KSG Distributing serviced a nation-wide account base.

Today, Greg Sanders serves as the president of KSG Distributing. Of KSG's future he says, "KSG Distributing has just the right mix of innovation and creativity to thrive in today's fast paced market. It's amazing the things we've accomplished that have not only kept us in business, but successful over the past decades. Some of our best and biggest competitors are no longer around. Entertainment is a staple in our economy. It doesn't matter where you live, how much money you make, or what you do for a living: we all watch movies and we all listen to music. That's what makes our industry so competitive; and that same competition doesn't allow anyone to rest on their merits. Innovation and creativity are absolutely essential to stay ahead of the curve. That's what has kept KSG successful for over three decades."
